Leif's 2-month well check.

Leif weighed in at 13 pounds 3 ounces at his 2-month appointment, ranking in the 85th percentile for weight! And he grew an amazing 3 inches in length!!! Boy oh boy, don't babies grow fast!?

He had his first immunization shots today too. Fortunately for him they recently modified how they administered several of the doses so that he would only get poked once instead of twice. Mama sang "Don't pout, don't cry..." and he only let out a tiny whimper. Such a strong boy. A low fever set in later in the day, and he rested well (with a 7 hour stretch in his evening slumber) and was better by the next day!

Sephira's 2 Month Checkup

Sephira had her 2-month checkup today.

Dr. Hokari reports that she is a healthy, beautiful girl...which we already knew! And Sephira weighed in at 13 pounds 14 ounces (in the 97th percentile), 23 inches in length (75th percentile), and a 39 centimeter head circumference (50th percentile). Big girl!!

Today was also the start of her immunization shots. We are doing a reduced immunization schedule, so today she received her first shots for DTap (Diphtheria, Tetanus (Lockjaw), and Pertussis (Whooping Cough)), Hib (Meningitis), and her first oral dose of the Rotavirus vaccine (severe diarrhea in babies and young children).

Let's just say she didn't like the shots at all!

She was a good girl though, and didn't fuss long. Maybe 5 minutes. She fell fast asleep as soon as we left the Dr's office, until we returned home 3 hours later. She had no desire to eat, so Mommy and Sephira took another nice long nap together. Her thigh did swell a bit from the shots, and she has continued to fuss a bit during the later part of the evening...but who can blame her. Even now she's quickly back to sleep - recovering from the ordeal!

Happy, Healthy Girl!

Sephira had to get a PKU test done today, so during her appointment she was weighed. Since her last appointment 7 days ago she has gained 11 ounces, weighing in at 10 pounds 5 ounces - an average of 1.6 ounces per day! The week prior to that it was 3 ounces a day. Either way there are no concerns about her feeding routines or weight gain. She's a happy, healthy girl!!!

Sephira's 2 Week Checkup

In the 7 days since Sephira's last checkup she put on 1 pound 3 ounces, weighing in at 9 pounds 10 ounces!! That's nearly 3 ounces a day! The nurse said Effie must be feeding her cream!

And she's gained a 1/4 inch in length too, measuring 21 inches now. She's growing so fast. Her little hands, arms and legs are starting to plump up and get chubby! It's so amazing to see the changes on a daily basis.

---

Wednesday evening Effie came down with a high fever of 103 which was determined to be "Postpartum Fever" caused by a possible urinary tract infection. We called the Doctor and they prescribed a 10-day dose of antibiotics over the phone, as they said there was nothing that they could do for Effie if she came in to their office.

Sephira's 1 Week Checkup

Dr. Hokari wanted Sephira to be close to her birth weight by her appointment this week, putting on about an ounce a day. Amazingly, Sephira averaged an ounce and a half every day and exceeded her birth weight by an ounce, weighing in at 8 pounds 7 ounces! Yeah! No supplements for her!

Sephira's First Checkup

Sephira had her first checkup today with Dr. Hokari. She lost 8% of her birth weight (up to 10% is normal), and now weighs in at 7 pounds 14 ounces. She should start to put on about an ounce a day now, and be back up to her birth weight by next week.

Other than that, we're happy to report that Sephira is in great health!

After her appointment Sephira got to go for her first ride in her Bob stroller at Target for some nursing supplies for Mommy. Our first "outing" as a family! It was a great and beautiful day!
